What To Expect

Length of Appointment:
-
First initial Acupuncture appointments can take up to 60-75 mins
We will have an in-depth discussion about your health concerns, health history, lifestyle, and goals for treatment. This conversation is an important part of the Traditional Chinese diagnostic process and it allows us to plan a course of treatment specifically tailored to your priorities. The diagnostic process will include tongue, pulse, palpation and other necessary physical examination.
After the diagnostic process, treatment will follow. We will insert one-time use disposable acupuncture needles into appropriate points in your body and usually leave you to relax in your calm and peaceful treatment room for up to 20-30 minutes. This will allow the needles sufficient time to influence your body’s Qi (energy). Most people generally feel refreshed and relaxed afterwards, especially from a busy and hectic day.
-
Follow-up Acupuncture appointments are 30-45 minutes, depending on treatment plan.
During your follow-up visits we will focus primarily on the progress and changes in your condition and address any new concerns you should have. We will usually start off with a conversation about your progress, a physical examination if needed, and do the Traditional Chinese diagnostic process (i.e. observe your tongue and do a pulse palpation). After diagnostic process, acupuncture treatment will follow.
How many acupuncture treatments do I need for my condition?
The frequency of treatment is based on your individual condition. Whether chronic or acute, determines how often, and for how long, you will need to receive treatment (generally given once a week or occasionally 2-3 times, a week). As your condition improves, and your symptoms are alleviated, the number of your treatments may be slowly reduced – to every other week, monthly or even seasonally.
-
Cupping Therapy, Tuina, Gua Sha, Moxibustion sessions usually last up to about 30 minutes
We will address any of your primary concerns and proceed with the Traditional Chinese diagnostic process and palpation, then treatment will follow.
***Please let us know if you have an appointment immediately following your visit.***
Arrive Early: Please arrive 15-20 minutes before your appointment if your forms have not been filled out. Allow yourself to relax. Treatment is most beneficial if you are in a calm state of mind. Prior to appointment it is also recommend that you use the restroom and eat a small snack or light meal.
What to Wear:
We recommend you wear short sleeves, stretchy pants, shorts, or something comfortable that allows us to access acupuncture points just above the knee, legs, above the elbow, and arms. Many patients bring a pair of shorts to change into.
New Patient Form(s):
Patient forms will be EMAILED to you after you have scheduled an appointment online or over the phone, therefore a real email is required to ensure that these forms are sent to you. Please fill out all areas of the patient intake form to the best of your knowledge and observation. Please sign all forms.
All other necessary forms will be filled out at appointment session if needed.
If you are a NEW PATIENT and you forget to fill out the forms or DO NOT have an email address prior to your appointment, you must show up 15-20 minutes earlier. We want to ensure that you have sufficient time for treatment and the initial consultation. If you show up late or on-time it may cut your treatment time short because the questionnaires and new patient intake forms are fairly detailed.
***If your running late please give us a call.***
(Note: All forms must be signed and filled out properly prior to any treatments.)
